What you'll do

One of the most important components of security is encryption.

  • How can we protect data from being read or modified by unauthorized parties?
  • Strong authentication and authorization can go a long way to helping, but at times our data will be out of our control and protecting it will be out of our hands.
  • In times like that, strong encryption can help provide the assurances that we need.
  • In this lab we will discuss tools and techniques for encrypting the data on your hard drive - that is, data at rest.
  • This is especially important for laptops that might get stolen or desktops placed where untrusted people might be able to physically access them.
